The show initially premiered with a short season of just five episodes in February. Despite Vince joking about the lack of a marketing budget, the series turned out to be a hit. The show was first announced in September 2022 and is loosely based on the rapper’s life, set in Long Beach. Staples not only stars in the series but also serves as an executive producer alongside Kenya Barris and his Khalabo Ink Society.
Before his venture into television, Vince Staples honed his acting skills with roles in the 2023 film “White Men Can’t Jump” and a recurring spot on Abbott Elementary. Reflecting on the success of his Netflix show, Staples shared, “I got to do something that isn’t really done on that network, or just done in general, with trying to break format and conventional comedy. I’m just trying some new things.”
