Disney+ Loses Subscribers After Jimmy Kimmel’s Suspension

Disney made the decision to suspend the show indefinitely due to comments made by Jimmy Kimmel about Donald Trump and Charlie Kirk. The show was pulled from the air after Disney’s two largest affiliate broadcasters, Sinclair Broadcasting and Nexstar Media, announced they would not air the show.

After facing backlash from fans and Disney stars, including Marisa Tomei and Tatiana Maslany, Disney reinstated Jimmy Kimmel and the show returned to the airwaves. However, during the suspension period, fans canceled their Disney+ subscriptions in protest, resulting in nearly 2 million subscribers canceling in just five days.

Disney’s decision to bring back Jimmy Kimmel was influenced by the planned price increase to Disney+. The company announced that there would be price increases to standalone Disney+ subscriptions as well as bundles that include Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN. The bundles that include HBO also saw price increases.

Although many fans canceled their subscriptions during the controversy, it’s unclear how many reactivated their accounts after Jimmy Kimmel’s return. The backlash has raised questions about future responses to threats from the Trump administration and the FCC.

What do you think about the subscriber losses following Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension? Do you believe Disney will face more cancellations before the price increase? How should Disney address future challenges? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
