Evenepoel Camp Not Fully Aligned After World Championship: What’s Next?
Remco Evenepoel had a challenging day at the World Cycling Championships in Kigali, encountering some bad luck along the way. Despite facing some setbacks, he managed to push through with a mental reset. During the press conference, he shared his experience of what happened before, during, and after Mount Kigali.
After hitting a pothole, Evenepoel’s saddle dropped, causing discomfort in his hamstrings. When Tadej Pogacar made a move, Evenepoel struggled with cramps and difficulty turning the pedals. He underwent two bike changes, as he felt his saddle wasn’t quite right, causing pain in his lower back.
Even though his mechanic found no issues with the bike, Evenepoel insisted on another change, which ultimately made him feel better. Despite falling behind, he persevered and caught up with other riders before focusing on upcoming races like the European Time Trial Championships in France and the Tour of Lombardy.
Reflecting on the intense race, Evenepoel acknowledged Pogacar’s strength and expressed some frustration at not being able to stay with the front group. Looking ahead, he remains motivated and determined to chase after the European jersey, considering it a significant goal.
After a challenging World Championship race, Evenepoel’s focus now shifts to future competitions, where he aims to continue his pursuit of victory and success on the cycling circuit.
