Nielsen weekly streaming report shows Netflix domination through Aug. 31, led by ‘KPop Demon Hunters’

This past week, Netflix dominated the weekly streaming charts, led by Sony Pictures Animation’s KPop Demon Hunters. This animated movie has been a smashing success, hitting 1.12 billion minutes viewed, and has been at the top of the movie chart for six weeks straight. Since its release in June, the movie has accumulated a whopping 9.8 billion minutes, making it the top streaming movie among kids 2-11, teens 12-17, and adults 18-34 this summer.
Also making waves is Netflix’s original movie The Thursday Murder Club, which pulled in 1.03 billion minutes. This murder mystery appeals to an older audience, with 68% of its total watch time coming from adults over 50+.
In third place was the second season of Netflix’s “My Life With the Walter Boys,” generating 987 million minutes. This teen drama particularly drew teens aged 12-17, making up 15% of the viewership.
Some other notable entries on the charts included Prime Video’s “The Terminal List: Dark Wolf” and “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” Peacock’s reality hit “Love Island USA,” and Netflix’s sci-fi drama “Extant.” All of these titles saw impressive viewership, with different age groups and demographics contributing to their success.
Finally, Marvel’s Thunderbolts made its debut on Disney+ and notched 702 million minutes. With a core viewership of adults 18-49, the movie attracted a diverse audience, including Hispanic, Black, and Asian viewers.
