MLB Nearing New Deals with NBC and Netflix: What This Means for Apple TV+

Looks like there are some changes heading Phillies fans’ way when it comes to watching MLB games next season, so make sure you keep that Apple TV+ login handy. Apple has a deal to stream Friday Night Baseball doubleheaders until the 2028 season, despite rumors suggesting they might be pulling out. The tech giant is even bidding for more games, but there’s been no official word from Apple on the matter. The Phillies have one more game left on Apple TV+ this season, so be sure to catch that Friday matchup against the Atlanta Braves.

In addition to Apple, MLB is getting ready to shake things up with new national deals. They’re working on agreements with NBC and Netflix to take over games that ESPN will no longer be airing starting in 2026. Commissioner Rob Manfred has been pushing back the announcement deadline, but he recently mentioned during ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball broadcast that he hopes to have things sorted out soon.

NBC seems like they’re going to be the new home of “Sunday Night Baseball,” and they might even broadcast the playoffs too. The deal could be worth around $600 million, but the details are still being ironed out. NBC is also looking to bring back the Sunday morning baseball package that started in 2022 on Peacock. As for Netflix, they’re eyeing the Home Run Derby to add to their sports lineup. This streaming giant is looking to score a three-year, $105 million deal to stream this event, which drew in over 5.7 million viewers this year.

Even though ESPN is stepping back from their current MLB deal, they’re in talks to snag MLB.TV, the league’s out-of-market service. ESPN might exclusively sell MLB.TV games as part of their new direct-to-consumer service, but things are still in the works. For Phillies fans, not much is changing on the local front. Most of the team’s games will still be on NBC Sports Philadelphia, with only a few national broadcasts here and there. In-market fans can also stream games through Peacock, but it will cost you a monthly fee.

So, it looks like some exciting changes are in store for MLB fans next season. Keep an eye out for more updates on where you can catch all the action!
