Surprising Discoveries from Netflix’s ‘Trainwreck: Poop Cruise’ – Travel Tips

An unforgettable voyage turned into a nightmare for passengers aboard a Carnival cruise ship back in February 2013. Known as the “Poop Cruise,” this incident left thousands stranded in uncomfortable and unsanitary conditions for days.

It all began with an engine room fire that led to a loss of power on the ship, leaving everyone without working toilets and in the dark. Passengers were advised to use plastic biohazard bags for their bathroom needs, which understandably didn’t sit well with many.

As days passed, the situation became even more dire as temperatures rose both inside and outside the ship. Passengers recalled the intense heat that forced them to sleep in hallways and on deck to escape the suffocating conditions.

With limited resources and an open bar onboard, the mood turned chaotic with reports of drunkenness, fights, and other inappropriate behavior. Despite the scheduled four-day trip, passengers and crew were stuck onboard for over a week before finally arriving in Mobile, Alabama.

Interestingly, the ticket contract that passengers signed allegedly included a shocking notice about Carnival’s lack of guarantees for safe conditions. However, Carnival reportedly removed this language from its terms and conditions after the incident.

Following the Poop Cruise, Carnival invested $115 million into cleaning and renovating the ship, which now sails under the name Carnival “Sunrise.” Passengers were compensated for their ordeal with $500, a free cruise opportunity, and a full refund, plus coverage of their transportation expenses.

In the end, the “Poop Cruise” may have been a harrowing experience, but it serves as a reminder to never take modern comforts like working toilets for granted when setting sail on a cruise vacation.
