Cartoon Network Studios Developing New Steven Universe Series for Prime Video

Cartoon Network Studios is bringing back the beloved Steven Universe franchise with a brand new series in the works for Prime Video. The new series, titled Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars, will take fans on a new adventure in the Steven Universe universe. Rebecca Sugar, the creator of the IP, is back as the executive producer of the new series, alongside Ian Jones-Quartey. Lars of the Stars will explore the world of the original series by following the space outlaw Lars Barriga and his pirate crew as they navigate through space and dodge the law.

Warner Bros. Discovery and Cartoon Network Studios shared the exciting news at Annecy, but details about the new series are still under wraps for now. The original Steven Universe series ran for five seasons from 2013 to 2019 on Cartoon Network, and later continued with a limited series called Steven Universe Future and a feature-length film, Steven Universe: The Movie, in 2019.

The franchise, which follows a kid who defends his town with the help of magical aliens, has also seen success with its consumer products partnerships. Companies like Funko, Just Toys International, PhatMojo, and Hot Topic have collaborated on merchandise tied to the show.

In 2019, the demand for Steven Universe was significantly higher than the average kids show, according to Parrot Analytics, a global TV series demand estimation platform. The show’s popularity has continued and now it’s paving the way for an exciting new chapter with Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars.

Additionally, Warner Bros. Discovery is renewing Teen Titans Go!, the longest-running animated series in the DC franchise, for a 10th season on Cartoon Network. The show follows five young superheroes on their comedic adventures, providing endless entertainment for fans of all ages. It’s an exciting time for animation fans, with both new and beloved series continuing to delight audiences around the world.
