Flyers to Pay Tribute to Bernie Parent with Jersey Patch and Celebration of Life
The Philadelphia Flyers are paying tribute to the late Bernie Parent, a beloved former goalie who passed away on September 21. This season, the team will be wearing a special jersey patch with Parent’s retired No. 1, starting with the home opener against the Panthers on October 13. Before the game, there will be a special presentation to honor Parent.
Additionally, on November 21, the Flyers and Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education will host a public celebration of Parent’s life at Xfinity Mobile Arena. More details about the event will be released at a later date. The following day, during the game against the Devils, the Flyers will dedicate the game to honor Parent.
Bernie Parent, a Hockey Hall of Famer, played a significant role in the Flyers’ history, leading them to back-to-back Stanley Cup wins in 1974 and 1975. His former teammate, Bob Kelly, fondly remembers the impact Parent had on the team, saying, “There was only one Bernie Parent and he was the best.”
