Netflix Production Shoot to Close N.J. Highway Daily

Heads up, drivers in Mercer County! Netflix is gearing up to film scenes for an upcoming production on Route 133 in East Windsor, which means parts of the highway will be closed and detoured during the day starting Monday. The closure will be in effect from Monday to Friday, Oct. 10, and then again from Wednesday, Oct. 15, through Friday, Oct. 17, between 8:30 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Don’t worry, though, there won’t be any closures over the weekend from Saturday, Oct. 11 to Tuesday, Oct. 14. Electronic message boards will be in place to alert you to detours and any changes in traffic patterns. Keep in mind that the timing of the closures could shift depending on the weather or production needs, so stay tuned for updates from the department.

For more detailed information on the closures and detours, you can check out the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s website. While Netflix hasn’t revealed which production they’ll be filming, this is all part of New Jersey’s ongoing efforts to attract major film and television projects to the state.

Back in May, Netflix announced its plans for a $1 billion production facility at Fort Monmouth, a former Army base that’s being transformed into a massive East Coast studio campus. With 12 soundstages totaling nearly 500,000 square feet, as well as space for production support and community amenities, it’s set to be quite the hub for entertainment.

Last year, New Jersey saw over 550 film and television projects being filmed in the state, bringing in a record $837 million in spending. Netflix was behind five of those productions, including “Happy Gilmore 2” and “A House of Dynamite,” which injected millions of dollars into the local economy through hiring, location rentals, and other in-state spending.

So, if you encounter some detours on Route 133 this month, just remember that it’s all part of the exciting world of entertainment coming to New Jersey! Stay tuned for more updates on this production and other film and television projects happening in the state.
