Driver Fatally Injured in Head-On Crash with Semi-Truck and Fire in Lenawee County

In a tragic accident in Lenawee County, Michigan, one person lost their life in a collision between a car and a semi-truck. According to the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office, a 45-year-old man was driving a 2024 Tesla Model 3 on US-223 when the incident occurred, with reports indicating he was heading west on the roadway just west of Rodesiler Highway in Riga Township around 3:40 p.m. Eyewitnesses reported that the Tesla driver inexplicably crossed into the eastbound lane where oncoming traffic was present, although no debris blocked the road, and there was no passing maneuver underway. The Tesla maintained course into the lane without attempting to avoid an oncoming semi-truck. This unfortunate decision led to a head-on collision between the two vehicles that tragically ended with the Tesla being pushed under the semi-truck, igniting both vehicles as they came to a stop in a ditch post-impact.

The driver of the semi-truck managed to escape the burning vehicle and was transported to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. In contrast, the Tesla driver was pronounced dead on-site. The authorities are currently investigating the incident, including determining if the Tesla driver was wearing a seatbelt and whether drugs or alcohol played a role. Notably, there were no passengers in either of the vehicles involved in the collision.
