In this 2-hour live event, Honnold, a world-renowned rock climber, will attempt to be the first person to free solo Taipei 101, one of the tallest buildings in the world. Standing at 1,667 ft tall with 101 floors, Taipei 101 is the tallest building in Taiwan and the 11th tallest globally.
Netflix’s vice president of nonfiction series and sports, Brandon Riegg, believes that Skyscraper Live will be the talk of 2026. He is confident that watching Honnold free climb Taipei 101 will be an adrenaline-fueled spectacle that you won’t want to miss.
Honnold is best known for his free solo climb of El Capitan’s 3,000-foot Freerider route in Yosemite National Park, as showcased in the Oscar-winning documentary, Free Solo. Directed by Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, the film took home the Academy Award for best documentary feature in 2019.
Honnold’s impressive climbing resume also includes free solo ascents of Zion’s Moonlight Buttress, Yosemite’s Half Dome, and the Yosemite “Triple Crown,” all done without ropes and alone. With such an accomplished climber like Honnold taking on Taipei 101 in a live event, Skyscraper Live promises to be a must-watch for thrill-seekers and climbing enthusiasts alike.
