Ewan McGregor Talks The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan’s Disney+ Presence

Ewan McGregor, the star of Obi-Wan Kenobi, recently shared his thoughts on how The Mandalorian may have overshadowed his show’s success. At Fan Expo Chicago 2025, McGregor spoke with fans about his series, which premiered on Disney+ in 2022, and noted that there hasn’t been a second season or any official cancellation announcement. He suggested that The Mandalorian, created by Jon Favreau, might have stolen the spotlight when Disney+ launched in 2019.
Despite the potential impact of The Mandalorian, McGregor remains optimistic about the future of Obi-Wan Kenobi. The series, set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, follows Obi-Wan watching over a young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine while protecting him from his father, Darth Vader. McGregor, who took over the role from Sir Alec Guinness in 1999, joked that he’s ready for season 2 and urged Disney to make it happen soon.
Obi-Wan Kenobi also features a talented cast, including Rupert Friend, Sung Kang, and Moses Ingram, and can be streamed on Disney+. While both Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Mandalorian have yet to see second seasons, fans can enjoy these Star Wars stories as they await more episodes.
