Bill Murray Set to Star in Golf Trip for BBC2 and Paramount+
Bill Murray, known for his roles in Caddyshack and Ghostbusters, is set to star in a new Ireland-based golfing series called Off Course. The show, produced by Stellify Media in Belfast and Skydance Sports from Paramount Sports Entertainment, will air on BBC2, BBC1 Northern Ireland, and Paramount+.
Inspired by Tom Coyne’s bestselling book, A Course Called Ireland, Murray will embark on a golfing adventure with his family, friends, and longtime golfing companion Tom Coyne in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The series aims to showcase the iconic golf courses of the region while diving into the joys of life and the occasional misadventure along the way.
Murray expressed his excitement for the project, stating, “I started out caddying, and golf was the best education I ever received. Ireland feels like the right place to put all that to work. They’ve got this wonderful word there, ‘craic,’ which means fun, but it means a lot of other things. A lot of good things. And this show will be about us finding it.”
The series will be led by showrunners Casey Scharf and Morgan Roberts, with Chris Cottam as the series director. Executive producers from Skydance Sports include Jesse Sisgold, Jason T. Reed, Jon Weinbach, and Greg Groggel, while Kieran Doherty and Matt Worthy will oversee production for Stellify, which is owned by Sony Pictures Television.
BBC executives Catherine Catton and Eddie Doyle are excited about the series, describing it as full of humor, heart, and adventure. Catton noted, “This is a series full of humor, heart, and adventure, set against some of the most beautiful backdrops imaginable – and we can’t wait for audiences to come along for the ride with Bill.”
Co-chief exec and co-founder of Stellify Media, Kieran Doherty, added, “Getting the opportunity to show off this gorgeous island we call home has been a privilege and a delight. Expect magic, mayhem, and mischief in equal measure.” The series promises to offer viewers a glimpse into the beauty of Ireland and the warmth of its people through the lens of a fun and engaging golfing escapade.
