Star Trek: Picard cast member discusses series finale

Gates McFadden, known for her role as Dr. Beverly Crusher in Star Trek: The Next Generation, recently shared some interesting insights about the Picard finale that are sure to keep fans talking!

Throughout TNG, Dr. Crusher’s relationship with Jean-Luc Picard was portrayed as a deep friendship, with subtle hints at something more. In the third season of Picard, it was finally revealed that they had indeed been together after TNG ended, and even had a son named Jack.

During a convention in September, McFadden discussed her experience playing Dr. Crusher and praised showrunner Terry Matalas for crafting a compelling arc for her character. She enjoyed how the series showcased Crusher’s multi-faceted skills, from medical expertise to handling phasers on the Enterprise-D.

When it comes to the finale, McFadden had some surprising thoughts. The last scene shows the former USS Titan being rechristened as the Enterprise-E, with Picard, Crusher, and their son aboard. While the nature of Picard and Crusher’s relationship is left somewhat ambiguous, McFadden noted that Patrick Stewart originally wanted a clearer resolution. However, she believes that the interpretation is ultimately up to the fans.

It’s interesting to consider the non-canon post-TNG books where Picard and Crusher are married. While a full reunion may not be on the horizon, the enduring friendship and shared history between the characters still hold strong.

The Picard finale leaves room for interpretation, inviting viewers to speculate on the future of Jean-Luc and Beverly’s intriguing relationship. What are your thoughts on their story? Let us know on our Facebook and social media pages!
