Jessica Chastain criticizes Apple TV+ for postponing new show post-Charlie Kirk’s passing
Jessica Chastain recently voiced her disagreement with Apple TV+’s call to delay the release of her new show, The Savant, in the wake of the tragic death of conservative leader Charlie Kirk. In an Instagram post shared on Wednesday, Chastain, who also serves as the show’s executive producer, expressed her belief that the series, which she finds to be incredibly relevant, should not have been put on hold.
The Savant, an eight-part limited series in which Chastain portrays a suburban mother-of-two and military veteran working at the Anti-Hate Alliance, delves into the world of online extremism as she navigates 4Chan-like message boards in an effort to thwart potential acts of terrorism. The show includes intense scenes of sniper fire and the bombing of a government building.
Despite the decision by Apple TV+ to postpone the show’s premiere, no specific reasons were disclosed, other than it was made after careful consideration. The series was originally set to launch this Friday, but the new release date remains unknown.
Following Kirk’s tragic passing, Chastain emphasized the importance of honoring those who strive to prevent violence before it occurs, highlighting the urgency of showcasing such courage in The Savant. She also referenced various acts of political violence in recent U.S. history, including the plot to abduct Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, attempted assassinations during President Donald Trump’s candidacy, and Kirk’s untimely death.
Chastain offered her well wishes for everyone’s safety and strength while expressing her hope that The Savant will soon reach audiences. Despite the delay, she remains optimistic about the eventual premiere of the series.
