May: Mongol Expert in Eighth Film from University of North Georgia
Dr. Timothy May, a professor at the University of North Georgia, is a well-known expert on Mongolian history and Chinggis Khan, which is often mistakenly referred to as Genghis Khan. His latest project, “Genghis Khan: The Secret History of the Mongols,” was a major hit and is now available internationally on the National Geographic channel as well as on Hulu and Disney+. May shared that he was humbled by the opportunity to contribute to the series and enjoyed the process of sharing his knowledge with a wider audience.
May’s involvement in the series was highly valued by the production team, particularly by producer Thomas Patterson. Patterson praised May’s book, “The Mongol Empire,” as one of the best works on Chinggis Khan’s dynasty and highlighted the impact May’s expertise had on the series. May’s role in the filming process was portrayed as a “talking head,” a role he excelled in during the six to eight hours he spent filming in his Dahlonega office.
For May, participating in these projects is a responsibility he feels passionate about as an educator. He believes it is crucial for scholars to share their knowledge and prevent misinformation from spreading. By participating in film and media projects, May sees it as a service to his community and a way to engage people in topics he is truly passionate about, such as Mongolian history.
In addition to his work on the series, May has authored 12 books, 60 articles and chapters, and various other publications. He has also made appearances on television shows such as “Origins: The Journey of Mankind” and “Deadliest Warrior.” May’s dedication to spreading accurate information about Mongolian history and his commitment to educating others demonstrate his passion for his field of study, making him a valuable asset to the entertainment industry as well.
