Why This New Netflix Movie is Changing the Rom-Com Formula
I recently watched The Wrong Paris on Netflix, and let me tell you, it’s a rom-com that shakes up the traditional Hallmark formula in the best way. Unlike the usual Hallmark movies that keep things super tame, The Wrong Paris is a breath of fresh air in the romantic comedy genre.
Picture this: a broke artist named Dawn, played by Miranda Cosgrove, signs up for a dating show that she thinks happens in Paris, France. Much to her surprise (and everyone else’s), it’s actually filmed in Paris, Texas. While she initially plans to leave the show after being fooled, things take an unexpected turn when she falls for Trey, the handsome bachelor of the show, played by Pierson Fode.
One of the reasons why The Wrong Paris stands out is because it pushes the boundaries of what we typically see in Hallmark movies. It features scenes that you would never find in a Hallmark film, like Trey’s abs being on full display, some suggestive bull-riding, and even women wrestling in a muddy pig sty. It’s a rom-com with a little bit of an edge, and it’s refreshing to see.
While I’ve watched my fair share of Hallmark movies over the years, there’s something about The Wrong Paris that sets it apart. It follows the familiar formula of a romantic comedy, but it adds in elements that make it feel more real and relatable. The characters are allowed to be flawed, silly, and yes, they talk about wanting sex. It’s a departure from the typical Hallmark movie, and I’m here for it.
Miranda Cosgrove shines in her role as Dawn, bringing warmth and charm to the character. She has undeniable chemistry with Pierson Fode, and together, they make the movie a joy to watch. But what really makes The Wrong Paris special is its satirical take on reality dating shows, as Dawn and her fellow contestants compete for Trey’s heart, all while the cameras roll.
If you’re a fan of Hallmark movies but want something with a little more bite, I highly recommend checking out The Wrong Paris on Netflix. It’s a fun, entertaining rom-com that’s perfect for a cozy night in.
