ABC suspends Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show for controversial remarks about Charlie Kirk’s death

ABC has decided to suspend Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show indefinitely after some controversial comments he made regarding Charlie Kirk’s death caused a group of ABC-affiliated stations to announce that they would not be airing the show. Kimmel, a seasoned late-night comedian, discussed the reactions to the conservative activist’s assassination on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” earlier this week, suggesting that some in support of MAGA are using the tragedy for political gain.

In response to the uproar sparked by Kimmel’s statements, Nexstar Communications Group made the decision to remove the show from its lineup starting Wednesday. Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar’s broadcasting division, referred to Kimmel’s comments as “offensive and insensitive” during a critical time in national political conversations. Nexstar oversees 23 ABC affiliates, which played a role in the swift action taken by ABC.

Kimmel has hosted his late-night show on ABC since 2003, but now finds himself in hot water over the remarks he made about Kirk’s death. The situation has brought forth challenging questions about the intersection of comedy and politics in today’s media landscape.
