Man in his 30s airlifted from Peacock Flats following 30-foot fall
Hiking in the beautiful Peacock Flats area can take a scary turn, as one hiker found out on Monday evening. The Honolulu Fire Department sprang into action and rescued a man in his 30s who had fallen about 30 feet while hiking near the popular Peacock Flats campsite in the Mokuleia Forest Reserve.
It all started with a 911 call around 7:04 p.m. Reporting the fall, it didn’t take long for the HFD to respond. With seven units and 19 personnel on hand, they were quickly on the scene, with the first unit arriving at 7:27 p.m.
The heroic Air 1 helicopter from HFD spotted the hiker around 8 p.m. After a thorough medical assessment, the man was airlifted to a nearby landing zone. This is where Emergency Medical Services took over at 8:36 p.m.
EMS wasted no time treating the hiker for multiple serious injuries, including a head injury. He was given advanced life support and quickly whisked off to an emergency room in serious condition. The swift response of all the units involved truly made a difference in this hiker’s life.
