New Study Reveals Streaming and Spending Habits of Americana Music Fans

New findings have just come out that shed light on the streaming and spending habits of Americana music fans. According to research conducted by the Digital Media Association (DIMA), Americana fans are a dedicated bunch, spending over twice as much on music each year compared to fans of other genres. On average, Americana enthusiasts shell out $837 per year on records, live shows, and merchandise, in contrast to the $400 spent by fans of other music styles.

In addition to spending more, Americana lovers also listen more. The research revealed that they spend 24% more time jamming out than fans of other genres. It seems music is a major part of their lives because a whopping 71% of Americana fans pay for an on-demand music subscription, surpassing the national average of 44%.

Graham Davies, President and CEO of DIMA, emphasized the strong connection between Americana fans and streaming platforms, noting that streaming has helped this genre expand beyond its regional roots to reach a national and international audience. Streaming services play a crucial role in connecting Americana artists directly with fans, fostering deep and lasting relationships.

When it comes to who makes up the Americana audience, the research indicates that the majority of Americana streamers are under 44 years old. Geographically, the South Central and South Atlantic regions of the U.S. have the highest concentrations of Americana listeners. Not surprising perhaps, a significant percentage of Americana music fans prefer to stream their music at home, with many also tuning in while on the road.

These insights remind us of the true passion and enthusiasm of Americana music fans, showing how streaming has become an integral part of their music experience. It’s not just about listening to songs – it’s about engaging with a community, discovering new artists, and building connections with their favorite musicians.
