Top free streaming app shut down
Amazon recently announced the shutdown of its free, ad-supported streaming service Freevee, which officially took place on September 3. This closure comes just four years after the platform was rebranded from IMDb TV.
Now, when users visit the Freevee app, they will be redirected to a website where they can download Prime Video, Amazon’s main streaming service. This is where all Freevee programming can now be found. The best part? Amazon has confirmed that the content on Prime Video will remain free and won’t require a membership, as reported by USA Today.
Fans of Freevee can still enjoy popular titles like “Jury Duty,” “Judy Justice,” and “Bosch: Legacy,” along with a variety of other series, movies, and live channels on Prime Video. The shutdown of Freevee comes on the heels of Amazon introducing advertisements on Prime Video about nine months ago and their announcement of Freevee’s closure in November 2024.
Originally launched in January 2019 as “Freedive” by Amazon subsidiary IMDb, the service underwent name changes to IMDb TV and then Freevee before eventually being integrated into Prime Video this year. Rest assured, Amazon has promised users that all the content previously available on Freevee will still be accessible through Prime Video.
