Kendra Licari to Star in Netflix Documentary About Her Crimes

A new Netflix documentary, “Unknown Number: The High School Catfish,” has captivated viewers with its shocking story. The film explores one of the most alarming cyberbullying cases in recent memory, involving a mother who was discovered to be harassing her own daughter and her boyfriend via text messages.

Back in October 2020, the young couple, Lauryn Licari and Owen McKenny, began receiving bizarre messages from an unknown phone number. The texts subsided for a while, only to resume a year later with the teens receiving dozens of messages daily.

The documentary features interviews with Lauryn, Owen, their families, classmates, and even Kendra Licari herself. Director Skye Borgam revealed that getting Kendra to participate in the documentary was no easy feat, but she ultimately agreed to share her perspective on the situation.

The FBI eventually became involved in the case, unraveling the mystery of the anonymous messages. Kendra was arrested in December 2022 and released on parole in August 2024, with a supervision order in place until February 2026, prohibiting contact with Lauryn.

The documentary sheds light on the impact of cyberbullying and the complexities of family relationships in the digital age. It’s a cautionary tale that highlights the importance of awareness and communication in navigating these difficult issues.
