“Gritty Western Film Cracks Netflix Top 10 with Unexpected Rotten Tomatoes Score”
If you’re like me, you know the struggle of picking what to watch on Netflix. Endless scrolling can feel longer than the show itself. That’s where the Top 10 list comes in handy—after all, if everyone’s watching it, it must be good, right?
Right now, the top spots are occupied by some familiar titles: a catfish documentary, followed by the record-setting KPop Demon Hunters. The Thursday Murder Club and Shrek the Third round out the top four. But at number five is a movie that caught my eye: Wind River.
This 2017 crime thriller flew under the radar for me when it first came out. So, I did some digging. Wind River is a gritty neo-Western featuring Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, and Jon Bernthal. The plot follows wildlife officer Cory Lambert (Renner) as he discovers the body of a teenage girl on a remote Native American reservation in snowy Wyoming. When rookie FBI agent Jane Banner (Olsen) joins the investigation, the two uncover more danger and darkness than they bargained for.
Written and directed by Taylor Sheridan (known for Yellowstone), Wind River scored surprisingly high on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics and audiences both loved it, boasting an impressive 90 percent from viewers and 87 percent from critics. For comparison, it’s rated higher than Top Gun and Hocus Pocus.
If you’re in the mood for a gripping mystery with a powerful message and haven’t checked out Wind River yet, now might be the perfect time to hit play. And if you want the latest entertainment news delivered to your inbox, click here for more.
