Watching Thunderbolts on Disney+: Why I Think I Missed the Mark by Not Seeing It Earlier
Man, talk about dropping the ball on Thunderbolts*. I have to admit, I’m not the only one who missed out on this gem. The movie actually tanked at the box office, which is a shame because it’s seriously fantastic.
But can we really be blamed for not showing up at theaters in droves? Disney has been rolling out Marvel films on Disney+ not long after they hit the big screen, so a lot of us probably just held out for the streaming release. However, let’s be real here – Thunderbolts* isn’t just your run-of-the-mill Marvel flick like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. This movie is on a whole other level.
Credit where credit’s due – Thunderbolts* is one of the most outstanding Marvel movies in recent memory, and we definitely dropped the ball by not giving it the support it deserved on the big screen. Here’s why.
Ever heard of l’appel du vide? It basically means “the call of the void,” and Thunderbolts* dives deep into that theme. There’s a scene early on where Yelena Belova (played by Florence Pugh), aka Black Widow, contemplates the meaning of life while perched on a precarious ledge – it’s pretty heavy stuff. The movie grapples with themes of loneliness and depression, and for once, a Marvel film actually feels like it has something meaningful to say.
Ever since Endgame, I’ve been craving more substance from the MCU, and Thunderbolts* delivers. It’s a welcome departure from the standard superhero fare, and I regret not catching it on the big screen where it could truly shine.
Speaking of missing out, watching Thunderbolts* on my cell phone at the gym just didn’t do it justice. The action sequences are mind-blowing, and they would have been even more impressive on a big screen. I mean, there’s a jaw-dropping fight scene where the Thunderbolts* face off against each other, and it’s top-notch. Trust me, experiencing it with a crowd would have taken the excitement to a whole new level.
So yeah, I definitely missed the mark on Thunderbolts*. Lesson learned – some movies are meant to be seen in theaters, and this was definitely one of them. Don’t make the same mistake I did – catch Thunderbolts* on the big screen if you get the chance. You won’t regret it.
