HBO Max Acquires U.S. Rights to Julien Temple’s Documentary Film ‘I Am …’
HBO Max has made an exciting acquisition by picking up the under-the-radar documentary “I Am Curious Johnny,” featuring industrial heir Johnny Pigozzi. Directed by Julien Temple, known for “The Filth and the Fury,” and produced by Oscar winner Jeremy Thomas, the film sheds light on the larger-than-life personality of Pigozzi.
The documentary dives into Pigozzi’s life as a photographer, conservationist, philanthropist, venture capitalist, and art collector. Long before selfies became a trend, Pigozzi was known for capturing celebrity moments at iconic spots like Studio 54 and the Polo Lounge in the 1970s. His circle of mentors and friends included influential figures like Gianni Agnelli, Jimmy Goldsmith, Mick Jagger, and Michael Douglas, among others.
“I Am Curious Johnny” features appearances from the likes of Michael Douglas, Martha Stewart, Mick Jagger, Diane von Furstenberg, and Graydon Carter, giving viewers a glimpse into Pigozzi’s captivating world. The documentary also explores the age-old question of whether wealth and connections can truly buy happiness or if shadows will always follow.
The deal was sealed by Dan Braun of Submarine Entertainment with HBO Max’s Tiffany Tulba, showcasing the interest in this intriguing documentary. Executive producers include The Lord Rothschild and Marie Savare, making this project a star-studded affair.
Both Jeremy Thomas and Julien Temple expressed their fascination with Pigozzi’s world, with Thomas stating, “Who can resist the world and fun of being with Johnny Pigozzi?” And Temple adding, “I wanted to explore whether substantial wealth and connections can ever truly buy happiness, or will shadows always follow us — no matter how far we run?”
With its star-studded cast of friends and mentors, an exploration of wealth and happiness, and a look at a life less ordinary, “I Am Curious Johnny” promises to be a captivating watch for viewers on HBO Max.
