Amazon Prime Benefit Changing on October 1 – Update
Amazon is making changes to its Prime membership benefits that could impact how some users share their perks. Starting in October, the company will no longer allow Prime members to share their shipping benefits with people outside their household through the Prime Invitee program. This change means that only household members will have access to the free shipping perk.
Amazon is shifting its focus to its Amazon Family program, which does allow members to share certain benefits with one other adult in their household, plus up to four teens and four children. These shared benefits include fast and free delivery on Prime eligible items, access to exclusive events and deals, Prime Video, Prime Reading, and third-party benefits like Grubhub.
While Amazon hasn’t disclosed specific figures for its Prime membership, the company has seen record sales and higher customer engagement during events like Prime Day. This year’s Prime Day was described as the biggest shopping event yet, with record sales and more items sold in a four-day period than ever before. Independent sellers, especially small and medium-sized businesses, also saw record sales during this time.
The annual cost of a Prime membership in the U.S. has been $139 since 2022, up from its previous price of around $119. Analysts speculate that Amazon may raise the price of Prime membership in 2026, although nothing has been confirmed by the company at this time.
These changes may impact how users share their benefits and access exclusive perks, so current Prime members should be aware of these upcoming adjustments.
