Jun Ji-hyun and Gang Dong-won Star Together in Disney+ Thriller ‘Tempest’
A dazzling pairing of two of the most glamorous stars in the industry, Jun Ji-hyun and Gang Dong-won, has fans buzzing with excitement as they come together on screen for Disney+’s new spy thriller, “Tempest,” set to premiere on September 10.
Both actors expressed their joy at working together during a press conference at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno District, central Seoul. Jun shared how eager she was to collaborate with Gang, stating, “Above all, I chose this project because I really wanted the chance to work with Gang before it was too late.” Meanwhile, producer Kim Hee-won expressed his delight at the exceptional cast, remarking, “Every day has been such a joy. I didn’t even have to try too hard to create beautiful images because the actors are so stunning on their own.”
In this nine-episode series, Jun plays Mun-ju, a former United Nations ambassador investigating an assassination attempt on a presidential candidate, alongside Gang as San-ho, a mysterious mercenary protecting her. Together, they uncover a truth that could shake the Korean Peninsula. They are joined by a talented ensemble cast, including Park Hae-joon, Kim Hae-sook, Yoo Chea-myung, Lee Mi-sook, Joo Jong-hyuk, Oh Jung-se, Lee Sang-hee, and John Cho.
For Gang, “Tempest” marks his return to the small screen after 21 years, driven by the opportunity to work with Jun. Reflecting on his transition from film to the series, Gang found the experience seamless, commenting, “Shooting the series wasn’t particularly difficult for me. The only difference may be having to shoot a bit more in a single day.”
While the show is packed with action, thriller, and political intrigue, there is also a romantic element between Jun and Gang. Their characters are mysteriously drawn to each other despite their differing backgrounds, leading to a mature and good-vibed connection, as Jun described it using a Korean slang term, “neujo.”
Behind the scenes, “Tempest” boasts a high-profile crew with codirectors Kim Hee-won and Heo Myeong-haeng, known for hits like “Vincenzo” and “Queen of Tears,” and talented screenwriter Jung Seo-kyoung, who penned “Decision to Leave” and “Little Women.”
The series will be released over four weeks, with Kim Hee-won promising viewers new “huge secrets” each week to keep them on the edge of their seats and eagerly anticipating each new episode. Sounds like a thrilling ride awaits us with “Tempest”!
