In Ghost Elephants, Herzog takes on the roles of writer, director, and narrator, immersing viewers in Boyes’ quest to uncover the truth behind these mysterious and possibly mythical creatures. In a statement, Herzog describes the project as a search for the White Whale comparable to Moby Dick, blending reality with dreams and imagination. The film brings audiences to the remote territory known as the Land at the End of the Earth, as named by local tribesmen.

Financed by Sobey Road Entertainment, Ghost Elephants was produced by Ariel León Isacovitch, with Sobey’s Brian Nugent and Andrew Trapani as executive producers, alongside Emerson Farrell, David Sze, and David B. Kirk. Herzog’s work often delves into the journeys of individuals consumed by obsession, driving them to the brink of sanity or toward enlightenment. From Aguirre to Grizzly Man, Herzog’s films never fail to captivate with their exploration of the human experience in all its intensity.
