Sony CEO Criticizes Portrayal of Hollywood Executives in ‘The Studio’
Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group CEO, Tom Rothman, recently commented on the portrayal of studio executives in the Apple TV+ series, “The Studio.” Rothman shared that while he found a “kernel of brilliant, blinding truth” in the show, he felt that overall, it missed the mark, saying, “everything else is horseshit.” He emphasized that, contrary to the depiction in the series, most studio execs are not morons.
Rothman praised the series for its satirical approach and acknowledged the humor intended in the portrayal of the character Matt Remick, played by Seth Rogen. He even joked about it during a presentation at CinemaCon. During the final two episodes of Season 1, Remick presented at the Las Vegas exhibitors’ conference, a nod to real-life industry events.
Rothman commended the show for capturing Remick’s unwavering passion for cinema, despite his executive blunders. He noted that the series reflects the struggle of studio executives trying to make the right decisions while navigating the complexities of the industry. The CEO’s insights offer a unique perspective on the show’s depiction of Hollywood executives.
