Paramount+ show canceled despite renewal announcement: What went wrong
Paramount had some surprises in store for fans of the show Dexter: Original Sin. Despite an earlier announcement that a second season was on the way, Variety revealed this month that the show will not be renewed. This prequel to the original Dexter series, which aired from 2006 to 2013 and starred Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan, debuted in December 2024. It took viewers back to 1991, exploring Dexter’s troubled past fifteen years before the events of the original series.
When Dexter: Original Sin premiered, it made quite an impact, becoming Showtime’s most streamed premiere with over 2.1 million viewers. Critics were also on board, giving it a 70% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While it’s disappointing that the show won’t be continuing, there might still be hope for fans. Variety reported that a writers’ room could open up for a second season of Dexter: Resurrection, which is a follow-up to Dexter and Dexter: New Blood. Resurrection premiered on July 11, and Michael C. Hall himself expressed excitement at the possibility of continuing Dexter’s story in future seasons.
So, while Dexter: Original Sin may not be returning, there could be more Dexter-related content on the horizon. Stay tuned for updates on the fate of everyone’s favorite serial killer with a code.
