Thunderbolts antihero team debuts on Disney+ today

Warning! Major news in the Marvel Cinematic Universe—Thunderbolts, the 36th installment, is now available for streaming on Disney+ as of today, August 27, 2025. This film hit theaters earlier this year and is ready to grace your screens at home.

In a departure from the usual feel-good hero stories, Thunderbolts brings together a group of antiheroes on a perilous mission with redemption hanging in the balance. Each character in this volatile squad carries their own baggage, powers, and loyalty issues, making teamwork a monumental task and their only shot at success.

This installment, directed by Jake Schreier and penned by Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo, introduces us to characters like Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), who wrestles with past traumas while taking on a leadership role. Alongside her are familiar faces like Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Red Guardian (David Harbour), all navigating their own battles and inner demons.

The Thunderbolts team is rounded out by new additions like US Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and Sentry (Lewis Pullman), all skillfully brought together by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). Her manipulations test the boundaries of heroism and villainy, blurring lines and adding to the tension of the narrative.

With the movie’s conclusion revealing the team as the New Avengers, we get a taste of what’s to come in Phase Six of the MCU. Stay tuned for a post-credits scene hinting at the next adventure in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, leading up to Avengers: Doomsday next year (2026).

If you’re a fan of the MCU, Thunderbolts is a must-watch as it brings a fresh, darker take on the superhero genre and sets the stage for exciting developments to come. So grab your favorite snacks, settle in, and get ready for an action-packed viewing experience!
