Writer Rosebud Baker leaving Saturday Night Live

Rosebud Baker, a comedian and three-year writer for Saturday Night Live, has confirmed her departure ahead of the 51st season of the show. Baker joined SNL in February 2022 after her work on the HBO Max series That Damn Michael Che. Starting in season 50, she contributed to the show’s “Weekend Update” writing team. In a recent podcast appearance with David Spade and Dana Carvey, Baker humorously described the challenge of finding humor in difficult news headlines for the show.

Besides her work on SNL, Baker is also an accomplished stand-up comedian. She has been recognized as one of Variety’s “Top 10 Comics to Watch” and Vulture’s “Comedians You Should and Will Know.” Her second stand-up special, “The Mother Lode,” was released on Netflix in February. Baker has made several notable appearances, including guest spots on The Daily Show, Have I Got News For You, and David Letterman’s Netflix series, “That’s My Time.” Additionally, she co-hosts the Find Your Beach podcast with her husband, comic Andy Haynes.

Baker is the second SNL writer to announce their departure from the show, following Celeste Yim. SNL’s 51st season is set to premiere on Saturday, October 4th.
