Explaining Peacemaker Season 2’s DCU Timeline
James Gunn recently offered some insights into the timeline of the DC Universe related to the premiere of Peacemaker Season 2.
The newest season of Peacemaker is now available for streaming on HBO Max. While the first season was an extension of the DCEU and ended with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in 2023, the second season is part of Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, which officially began in 2024 with Creature Commandos.
At the start of Peacemaker Season 1, there is a notable switch from the DCEU’s Justice League to the DCU’s Justice Gang in the recap. This means that characters like Mister Terrific, Superman, Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Supergirl are featured but Metamorpho, played by Anthony Carrigan, is missing from the line-up because the character joined the Justice Gang in Gunn’s Superman.
Gunn addressed the absence of Metamorpho in the recap on Threads, stating that the “previously” section takes place before Superman, indicating that the events of the first season of Peacemaker occur before Superman, while the second season is set after the events of the first DCU movie.
New episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 will be released on Thursdays and feature a talented cast including John Cena as Chris Smith/Peacemaker, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, and others.
According to the show’s logline, in Season 2, Peacemaker discovers an alternate world that challenges him to confront his past traumas and shape his future while experiencing a life that fulfills his desires.
