Atlas Air Partnership with University of Alaska Anchorage to Support Pilot Training Strengthened

Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. (Atlas) has reconfirmed its commitment to supporting aviation students at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) by renewing its scholarship program for pilot and maintenance training. The announcement was made at Merrill Field in Anchorage, with leaders from Atlas, UAA, and U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy in attendance.

The program, which initially began in 2024, will continue to provide scholarships to UAA students pursuing careers in aviation. Specifically, four scholarships will be offered to maintenance technician students, and three scholarships will support aspiring pilots.

This ongoing partnership aims to bolster UAA’s aerospace program, which is highly regarded and plays a crucial role in training pilots, air traffic controllers, and maintenance professionals essential to Alaska’s aviation industry.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy commended Atlas Air Worldwide for their dedication to supporting the aviation industry, stating that efforts like these are in line with the mission to enhance the country’s airspace infrastructure.

Michael Steen, CEO of Atlas Air Worldwide, emphasized the importance of investing in local workforce development to promote growth in the aviation sector. He expressed Atlas’ commitment to aligning with the national goal of achieving excellence in airspace management.

Ray Weber, Dean of UAA’s Community & Technical College, expressed gratitude for the continued support from Atlas Air Worldwide. He highlighted the transformative impact of these scholarships on UAA students, enabling them to acquire the necessary skills and certifications for successful careers in aviation.
