Netflix crime drama Department Q returns for second series
Netflix has officially announced that the popular crime drama Department Q, set and filmed in Edinburgh, will be returning for a second series. Fans can look forward to seeing Matthew Goode reprise his role as DCI Carl Morck, the flawed and messy detective in charge of a team of misfits based in the basement of a police station.
The show revolves around the team’s efforts to solve cases that were previously considered unsolvable. Joining Goode in the new season will be familiar faces like Alexej Manvelov as Akram, Leah Byrne as Rose, and Jamie Sives as Hardy.
Based on a book series by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen, Department Q’s transition from Scandi noir to Tartan noir was inspired by the director’s experience scouting locations in Edinburgh. The show’s Danish language version was previously broadcasted on the BBC, but Netflix introduced the first big-budget English language adaptation to a global audience in May.
Following its release, Department Q spent six weeks in Netflix’s top ten shows, proving its popularity among viewers. Scott Frank, the show’s writer and director, expressed his gratitude to Netflix, the talented cast, and crew for bringing his vision to life once again.
The Netflix executives, Mona Qureshi and Manda Levin, expressed their excitement about the return of Morck and his team, praising Scott Frank’s storytelling and the global reception of the series. Fans can anticipate more thrilling investigations and comedic moments in the upcoming season.
So, get ready for more mystery, intrigue, and laughs as Department Q returns for a second series. Edinburgh, here we come!
