Miss Governor Season 2 Gets Manifested by Netflix Star Jade Novah
A fresh campaign for Season 2 of Miss Governor is already underway after the latest installment of Season 1 hit Netflix. The show, a 16-episode sitcom created by Tyler Perry, follows the story of Antoinette Dunkerson, the first Black lieutenant governor of the state, as she navigates the tricky political landscape, dealing with a dismissive governor, public scrutiny, and personal drama.
Originally titled She the People, the series was renamed to Miss Governor after a lawsuit was filed alleging trademark infringement. Despite the controversy surrounding the name change and lower viewership for Part 1, star Jade Novah remains optimistic about the show’s future.
Novah, who plays Shamika Latavia Latoya Farrah Dunkerson, Antoinette’s cousin and campaign assistant, recently expressed hope for a Season 2 renewal on Instagram. The series, while performing decently upon its initial release, faced a decline in viewership as it progressed through Part 1.
With Part 2 now available on Netflix and yet to enter the Top 10 list, the show’s chances for renewal may seem uncertain. However, the intriguing storyline, particularly the cliffhanger ending of Part 2, leaves fans eager for more. Creator Tyler Perry hints at the uncertainty surrounding Antoinette’s future in the series, adding to the suspense.
Despite the legal challenges and viewership concerns, the themes explored in Miss Governor, such as systematic racism and political complexities, make a strong case for the show to continue. The blend of humor and relevant social commentary gives audiences a unique perspective on the political landscape. Whether Season 2 will come to fruition remains to be seen, but the journey of Antoinette Dunkerson is far from over.
