“Veronica Mars Season 4 Feels Off”
As summer winds down, my daughters and I are finishing up our Veronica Mars rewatch. We breezed through the first three seasons and the movie, but the fourth season took us a bit longer. Juggling camp, parties, and a slow start to the season caused some delays.
The fourth season of Veronica Mars felt off for several reasons, not just the bad theme song. It had been a while since the last installment, and jumping into an older Veronica in a new Neptune was a bit disorienting. Many of the familiar faces were missing or pushed to the side, making it feel less cozy.
The tone changed, the setting was different, and the characters we knew and loved seemed unfamiliar. The adult Veronica lacked her signature snark, Keith was struggling with health issues, and the steamy scenes were awkward to watch with young teens.
The decision to introduce new characters at the expense of the old favorites didn’t sit well. While the new mystery was intriguing once it got going, the absence of the old format made it harder to settle in.
Despite the rocky start, the season eventually found its footing. The dynamic between Veronica and Keith was a highlight, along with some standout new characters. And of course, it wouldn’t be Veronica Mars without the charming Leo making an appearance.
The controversial ending, with the sudden death of a major character, left a sour taste. While it was a bold move, it didn’t sit right with many fans, leaving them more frustrated than satisfied.
Overall, the fourth season of Veronica Mars is worth a watch, but it may not scratch the same itch as the earlier seasons. It’s a good season, but it doesn’t quite capture the essence of what made the show so beloved in the first place.
