Report: Peacock Bids to Retain WWE PLEs as WWE Explores Other Options
WWE recently made a big announcement about their new media rights deal with ESPN, which will see their Premium Live Events (PLEs) being broadcast on ESPN’s streaming service in the US starting in 2026.
According to Bryan Alvarez’s sources on Wrestling Observer Live, Peacock had put in a bid of around $275 million per year to keep WWE PLEs on their platform. It’s not clear if this offer is for the same terms as before or for how long.
Interestingly, WWE was also exploring selling the rights to WrestleMania separately from the PLE package, looking for different partners for each.
The current deal with Peacock is set to expire in March 2026, so changes are on the horizon.
In more news, next week’s WWE SmackDown show in Boston is set to have a special tie-in with the animated series “King of the Hill.” The arena will feature branding from the show, and wrestlers Sheamus and Johnny Gargano will create videos inspired by it.
Speaking of WWE events, Bryan Alvarez mentioned that the recent addition of Evolution 2 and a second night of SummerSlam means WWE will fulfill its 2025 PLE commitment with Survivor Series in November. This leaves December open for John Cena’s retirement match.
Additionally, it seems that NXT talent Sol Ruca is impressing WWE officials and may be headed for the main roster soon. And Roman Reigns is set to appear at the August 25th WWE RAW show in Birmingham, England.
On the streaming side of things, Peacock announced price increases for their premium subscriptions effective late August. While WWE Speed hasn’t aired new episodes, it’s uncertain why.
And in a recent interview, WWE President Nick Khan shared his thoughts on out-of-office emails, emphasizing the importance of being available and focused at work.
Finally, Gunther discussed his wrestling career and how achievements don’t hold as much weight outside the ring. He values personal growth and being present for his family over accolades.
