Amazon Prime Video’s ‘War Of The Worlds’ Receives 4% Rating on Rotten Tomatoes
Amazon Prime Video’s recent release, War of the Worlds, has been making waves for all the wrong reasons. The film, directed by Rich Lee, became available for streaming on July 30 and has garnered a dismal 4% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 27 reviews. While this is an improvement from the initial 0% rating it received, it’s still not great news for the movie.
As a result of the lackluster reception, Rotten Tomatoes included War of the Worlds (2025) in its list of the 100 Worst Movies of All Time, landing itself at the #88 spot. Interestingly, it joined the ranks of films like Look Who’s Talking Now (1993) and The Ridiculous 6 (2015) in this less-than-illustrious list.
Based on H.G. Wells’ classic novel from 1898, this latest adaptation has seen previous versions by legends like Orson Welles in 1938 and Steven Spielberg in 2005. The cast of Lee’s reimagining includes the talented duo of Ice Cube and Eva Longoria, with production credits going to Patrick Aiello and Timur Bekmambetov.
The official description promises a fresh take on the timeless story, highlighting themes of technology, surveillance, and privacy in a modern setting. However, some critics have taken issue with the excessive Amazon product placement in the film, calling it out as a distraction from the narrative.
Despite the polarizing reviews, War of the Worlds (2025) is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. So if you’re curious to see what all the fuss is about, you can check it out for yourself.
