Apple to Announce $100B Commitment for U.S. Manufacturing
On Wednesday, Apple announced a significant commitment to U.S. manufacturing, planning to invest an additional $100 billion to boost its production in the country. This follows their earlier pledge to invest $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years. Some initiatives under this commitment include opening an advanced manufacturing facility in Houston to produce servers for Apple Intelligence, creating Apple TV+ productions in 20 states, and collaborating with U.S. suppliers.
This move comes amid pressure from President Trump, who has threatened Apple with tariffs unless they increase their manufacturing in the United States. Currently, Apple mainly manufactures its devices in India, China, and Vietnam. However, they have already faced tariff-related costs, spending $800 million in June and expecting to spend $1.1 billion in the next quarter, as stated by CEO Tim Cook during an earnings call last month.
This step by Apple marks a significant investment in U.S. manufacturing and contributes to the growing trend of tech companies reshoring their production in response to global economic shifts and political pressures.
