Global Debut of Carnival Catwalk on Peacock

Carnival Catwalk, the exciting Caribbean fashion competition series, has made its debut on NBC’s Peacock platform, marking a significant milestone as the first reality television series created and produced in Trinidad and Tobago to be acquired by a major US streaming network. Originally premiering in January on CNC3, the show is the brainchild of executive producers Jerome “Rome” Precilla, Gian Franco, and Rodney Seemungal. Featuring 10 talented designers from diverse international backgrounds, the series showcases design challenges that blend Carnival elements with high fashion. The winner not only receives $100,000 but also a fully paid trip and a featured showcase at Milan Fashion Week.

The production of Carnival Catwalk involved a dedicated team of over 180 people, with 98% of the talent hailing from Trinidad and Tobago, including editors, camera operators, stylists, and models. Precilla expressed his excitement about the positive impact the show will have on the local design industry, the carnival industry, tourism, and the overall culture of the region. Hosting the show are Precilla and Jamaican TV personality Kandi King. The esteemed judging panel features Wendy Fitzwilliam, Miss Universe 1998, as the head judge, and Anya Ayoung-Chee, winner of Project Runway season nine.

Throughout the season, guest judges and personalities from the Caribbean fashion and entertainment industries make appearances, adding depth and diversity to the show. Franco emphasized that the series positions Caribbean designers as equals on the global fashion stage, showcasing their exceptional talent and creativity. Carnival Catwalk also acts as a platform for promoting Caribbean music, featuring over 150 soca tracks during its nine-episode run. With Peacock’s subscriber base exceeding 41 million, the show is expected to amplify the reach of soca artists across North America and beyond.

Seemungal highlighted the crucial support from the Government of Trinidad and Tobago in the development of the show, underscoring the collaborative effort and dedication that made Carnival Catwalk a reality. The producers urge audiences in the Caribbean and the diaspora to tune in and support the show on Peacock, emphasizing the importance of showcasing the region’s power and potential on a global stage. Since its release on August 1, Carnival Catwalk has rapidly climbed the ranks, securing the third spot on Peacock’s “Peacock Picks” list, signifying its widespread appeal and popularity among viewers.
