Neglected Animals Rescued in Rio Verde: Zebra, Camels, Peacocks and More

Exciting news in the world of animal rescue! Over 50 animals, including a zebra, camels, and peacocks, have been saved from neglectful conditions at a property near Scottsdale. Thanks to the hard work of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Animal Crimes unit and the Animal Safe Haven (MASH) crew, these animals are now safe.

The rescued animals, which included horses, rams, goats, sheep, tortoises, a cockatoo, and even a bull, were found in heartbreaking conditions in the Rio Verde Foothills. Reports indicate that they were without food or water, with many suffering from dehydration and malnutrition. Some of the horses were in such dire need of medical attention that they were rushed for immediate care.

It’s heartwarming to know that Rural Metro Fire played a vital role by delivering over 2,000 gallons of water to provide relief to these neglected animals. A powerful message from the MCSO: neglect will not be ignored, and every life matters. While it’s unclear if charges will be filed, officials are committed to keeping the public informed as these animals begin their journey to recovery.
