Why you should cancel Disney Plus and Paramount Plus this month
With the hustle and bustle of back-to-school season upon us, your free time is likely at a premium. Why not take a look at your streaming subscriptions and see if you could save a little money this month? In 2025, Americans are shelling out around $61 each month for streaming services, adding up to a hefty $732 a year. If you find yourself not using a service as much, why not hit pause and trim down those costs?
This August, consider putting Disney Plus and Paramount Plus on hold. While both services are usually top contenders on our list of best streaming platforms, this month’s lineup is a bit lackluster. If you’re not knee-deep in a binge-watch or rewatch, it might be a good time to press pause and resubscribe when something new catches your eye.
Let’s dive into why I suggest considering canceling these subscriptions this month:
Disney Plus may be a go-to for many families with its beloved lineup of kid-friendly content, but with the end of summer in sight, you might find yourself with less time to watch those familiar favorites on repeat. The highlight of August on Disney Plus is the animated miniseries “Eyes of Wakanda,” a spinoff from “Black Panther” that delves into Wakanda’s history. With only four episodes dropping on August 1, it feels like Disney is burning through the series quickly. Alongside this, you’ll find Chris Hemsworth’s docuseries “Limitless: Live Better Now” and “LEGO Disney Princess: Villains Unite,” but these may not be must-see shows at the moment.
Paramount Plus, on the other hand, has a sparse August lineup. Aside from a few sports events like WNBA matchups and the Women’s Rugby World Cup, there are no original shows or movies premiering this month.
By canceling Disney Plus and Paramount Plus this month, you could save up to nearly $29, depending on your subscription plans. Even though it might not seem like much, these savings can add up over time, especially if you rotate your streaming services throughout the year. Every little bit helps as costs continue to rise across the board.
So, if you find yourself with a packed schedule and not much time for TV, consider giving Disney Plus and Paramount Plus a break this August. You can always resubscribe when there’s something new and exciting to watch.
