“Chief of War” Premieres on Apple TV+: A New Show to Watch

The highly-anticipated television series “Chief of War” featuring Jason Momoa is gearing up for its premiere on Friday, Aug. 1, on Apple TV+. The show follows the story of Kaʻiana, played by Momoa, as he endeavors to unite the Islands before Western colonization took place in the late 18th century.

Excitement is building as the first two episodes are set to drop on Aug. 1, with subsequent episodes airing every Friday until Sept. 19. The series was both written and executive produced by Momoa alongside Thomas Pa‘a Sibbett, known for their work on films like “Braven,” “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” and “The Last Manhunt,” all of which also feature Momoa.

The stellar cast includes Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Cliff Curtis, and many more, with Doug Jung as the executive producer and showrunner. The setting of the show in Hawaiʻi brings a unique authenticity that is sure to captivate audiences.

Although most of the filming took place in New Zealand due to budget constraints, Momoa and the producers had originally hoped to film exclusively in Hawaiʻi. The production team, which includes producers Angie Laprete and Brian Keaulana, strived to incorporate local values and cultures into the show, even hiring a team of cultural advisors to ensure authenticity in the costumes, canoe scenes, and battle sequences.

Laprete and Keaulana also co-founded the Hawaiʻi Film Alliance, a venture aimed at advocating for increased film production in Hawaiʻi, providing more opportunities for locals and showcasing the beauty and talent of the region.

As the excitement for the premiere builds, the team behind “Chief of War” remains committed to capturing the essence of Hawaiian culture and history in a compelling and impactful way. This series promises to be a must-watch for fans of historical dramas and engaging storytelling.
