Apple TV+ CHIEF OF WAR: A Historical Military Drama

This exciting new series is making its way to Apple TV+ courtesy of directors Justin Chon, Anders Engstrom, and Jason Momoa. Set in the 19th century, the show delves into the history of CHIEF OF WAR.

In the Hawaiian Islands, four major kingdoms reign, with Ka’iana (played by Jason Momoa) emerging as a fearless man who’s intimately connected to the ocean and its mysteries. Hailing from Maui and the son of a king, Ka’iana seeks refuge on the island of Kaua’i with his partner Kupuohi (portrayed by Te Ao o Hinepehinga). However, their peaceful existence is disrupted when a boat from Maui arrives, demanding Ka’iana’s return to speak with King Kahekili (played by Temuera Morrison).

Back on Maui, Ka’iana comes face-to-face with his uncle, the King, and encounters Prince Kupule (Brandon Finn), alongside others who view him as a deserter. Despite his initial reluctance, Ka’iana learns of a brewing army on O’ahu and a troubling prophecy about potential enslavement. Identified as a key figure in this prophecy, Ka’iana must now face a pivotal battle alongside a trusted warrior.

As the narrative unfolds, viewers are transported into a world of power struggles, betrayals, and moral dilemmas. The characters, portrayed by an ensemble of talented actors including Momoa, Hinepehinga, Morrison, Finn, Ikale’o, and Tuhaka, bring depth and authenticity to the storytelling.

The decision to develop CHIEF OF WAR as a series, instead of a single film, was a deliberate choice by co-creators Jason Momoa and showrunner Thomas Pa’a Sibbett. They felt compelled to explore the rich history and culture of the story in a more expansive format. The series balances historical accuracy with engaging storytelling, drawing inspiration from real events and figures in Hawaiian history.

Filmed in Hawaii and New Zealand, the series captivates audiences with its stunning visuals and immersive storytelling. The creators’ commitment to authenticity and cultural representation shines through every aspect of the production, from language to costume design.

CHIEF OF WAR premieres this Friday, with the first two episodes setting the stage for an epic journey through Hawaiian history. Apple TV+ has once again delivered a compelling and thought-provoking series that promises to engage viewers week after week. Dive into the world of CHIEF OF WAR and experience a tale unlike any other.
