Starfleet Academy: A First Look at the Upcoming Series
Filming early next year, ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ has us all buzzing with excitement! Paramount+ has just released a teaser trailer that brings back the classic vibes of this iconic series. Set in San Francisco, it’s the first time in over 150 years that we get to see cadets at Starfleet. A fresh start for the Federation is on the horizon after a major shake-up in the universe wiped out warp-based ships.
In this new series, we get to meet the U.S.S. Athena, a new starship commanded by Holly Hunter as the Chancellor of Starfleet Academy and Captain of the Athena. She’s a long-lived half-Lanthanite, a fascinating twist for fans. And if that’s not exciting enough, get ready to see some familiar faces! Robert Picardo is back as The Doctor, Tig Notaro as Jett Reno, and Oded Fehr as Admiral Vance are all reprising their beloved roles.
The show follows a group of cadets pursuing their dreams in the hopes of becoming Starfleet officers. Friendship, rivalry, romance, and a looming threat to the Academy and the Federation keep things intense. Keep an eye out for rising stars Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, Bella Shepard, and Zoë Steiner as they bring these characters to life.
The teaser trailer is packed with Easter eggs, like a wall honoring fallen Starfleet heroes, paying tribute to iconic characters from the Trek universe. It’s a beautiful nod to the legacy of the series. ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ is set to premiere early in 2026, kicking off the 60th anniversary celebrations of STAR TREK.
