Peacock Price Increase: How to Save Money on Streamingnowrap Peacock Price Hike: Ways to Save on Streaming Services
Peacock just made a major move by increasing its prices, marking its largest price hike to date. It might feel like we’ve been here before, as just over a year ago in July 2024, Peacock implemented its second-ever price increase right before the summer Olympics, much to the disappointment of subscribers. Now, here we are again with another increase. This time around, Peacock Premium (the ad-supported tier) has gone up from $7.99 to $10.99 per month, while Premium Plus (the ad-free option) has seen a bump from $13.99 to $16.99 per month. Annual subscription prices have also seen a significant jump from $79.99 per year to $109.99 per year with ads and from $139.99 to $169.99 per year without.
With these new prices in effect, Peacock’s ad-supported and ad-free tiers are now pricier than popular platforms like Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, and Paramount+. Ouch.
For current subscribers, the new pricing started on Wednesday, July 23 for new sign-ups. Existing subscribers won’t be charged the new prices until after Aug. 22, depending on their billing date. If you’re currently on a promotional offer that you signed up for before July 23, you’ll keep that pricing until the end of the promo period. Once the promo period ends, you’ll be charged the new prices. If you want to cancel your subscription, head to your profile icon, then account, and under “plans & payment,” you can find options to change or cancel your plan.
In a bid to offer a more affordable option, Peacock is testing a new tier called “Select.” Priced at $7.99 per month or $79.99 annually, the Select plan is the same as the ad-supported plan was priced before the recent increase. The Select tier is currently being tested and if it proves popular, it could become the cheapest way to enjoy Peacock.
Existing subscribers can transition to the Select tier by visiting the “plans & payment” tab in their account and choosing the “change plan” option. However, please note that the Select tier does not include access to movies, Peacock Originals, sports and live events, or your local NBC channel. Content available on the Select Tier includes NBC’s current season and library, Bravo’s current season and library, other TV libraries, and select channels.
As prices of streaming services continue to rise, saving money is a top priority for many. Luckily, Peacock regularly offers discounts throughout the year, making it one of the few services with these saving opportunities. Additionally, there are various ways to secure a subscription at a discounted rate like student discounts, military discounts, first responder discounts, third-party discounts, and more.
