South Park lands new streaming home on Paramount+ in $1.5 billion agreement
The popular animated series South Park has found a new streaming home on Paramount+ in a groundbreaking $1.5 billion deal. This exclusive five-year agreement will bring all 26 previous seasons of the show, known for its bold and satirical humor, to the platform. Fans can also look forward to 50 brand-new episodes, with the first ones set to debut this week.
After a fierce bidding war among major streaming services, Paramount+ secured the coveted rights to South Park. Previously available on HBO Max, the show will now be exclusive to Paramount+. Despite the change, new episodes will still premiere on Comedy Central before moving to the streaming platform.
This deal comes at a crucial time for Paramount, following public backlash over the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS. Despite its popularity and Colbert’s sharp political commentary, the network cited financial reasons for axing the late-night show. Notably, the network recently reached a $16 million settlement with President Donald Trump in a lawsuit involving edited interview footage.
Since its debut in 1997, South Park has earned a global reputation for its bold, unfiltered humor and its courage in tackling controversial topics. The show’s creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, are also behind the hit musical The Book of Mormon.
The move to Paramount+ is a significant development for fans of the show, giving them more ways to access their favorite content and opening up exciting possibilities for future episodes.
