NBCUniversal Considering Cable Channel Featuring Peacock Sports and NBA Content
NBCUniversal is cooking up something new for all you sports fans out there! They’re thinking about launching a cable channel featuring Peacock sports content and NBA games. How cool is that?
This new channel is set to debut this fall, right when NBC Sports and Peacock take over the NBA distribution rights as part of a big deal with Disney, NBC, Peacock, and Prime Video. While NBCUniversal hasn’t said anything official about this yet, sources in the know spilled the beans to The Wall Street Journal.
Instead of being part of the regular pay-TV lineup, the sports channel would be bundled with some fancy premium TV packages from other providers. NBCUniversal is also doing a bit of a shuffle, spinning off its cable lineup into a whole new company called Versant, which includes oodles of channels like CNBC, E!, and SyFy, along with some digital goodies like Rotten Tomatoes and Fandango.
With live sports still ruling the TV airwaves, other big players like Fox and Disney are getting ready to launch their sports-focused streaming services soon. It’s a whole new ballgame!
Peacock, which is already strutting its stuff with hit shows like “Sunday Night Football” and exclusive NFL games, offers up a ton of other sports content too, like PGA Tour golf and college football. And at last count, Comcast’s Xfinity service had more than 12 million fancy premium TV subscribers.
Exciting stuff is on the horizon for sports lovers – don’t miss out on the action!
