Reality TV Boosting Peacock Streaming Growth

Reality TV is a big hit for NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming service. Shows like “The Traitors” and “Love Island USA” are driving huge viewership numbers, with “Love Island USA” in particular drawing in 1.88 million U.S. households in the week leading up to its season seven finale on July 14, according to Samba TV.

It’s clear that viewers are hooked on these reality shows, with Gen Z households (A20-24) watching the most, especially in cities like Boston, Minneapolis, and Sacramento. The show has been a hit with streamers since its debut on June 3, helping Peacock snag the second spot for monthly usage increase behind Netflix.

During the week of the finale, about 60% of viewers were adults 18-34, making it the top title in that age group. Female viewers especially loved the show, making up 79% of viewership. And “Love Island” didn’t just appeal to one group – it also over-indexed among black audiences, capturing 24% of total viewership.

This surge in viewership helped Peacock grow its share of TV viewers in June, finishing with 1.5% of the market. With hits like “Love Island USA” and “The Traitors,” Peacock is set for more success in the streaming world.
